La Calima

In March 2022, a dust storm (Calima) from the Sahara blew sand across Europe, reaching as far north as the UK. The Alpujarra, where these pictures were taken, lies in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in southern Spain. The locals said they hadn’t seen a storm this severe in decades. The air was thick and yellow, and when it started to rain, it transformed the white villages to a terracotta hue.
