‘Feeding the Minotaur’

In this project, I explore the contradictory nature of the material world from which we all benefit. Inspired by Jason Hickel's writing (The Divide), I came to realise the extent to which civilisation is related to empire, slavery, and global North-South inequality. As a Brighton-based photographer, I could explore this theme in the objects displayed in the Royal Pavilion. The gold and the opulence draw you in, casting a spell of forgetfulness.

This was part 1 of my MA research and experimentation project, and will be further developed in the project called Patina.

The title is a reference to the book ‘The Global Minotaur’ By Yanis Varoufakis
